Authority & Grace

Behold, children are a gift of the Lord,

The fruit of the womb is a reward.

Like arrows in the hand of a warrior,

So are the children of one’s youth.

How blessed is the man whose quiver is full of them;

-Psalm127:3-5a

Children are valuable. Priceless. Beautiful. Vivacious. Full of blessing, and bringing blessing, from the Lord on all who have them, raise them, love them, and nurture them. On Friday, June 24, 2022, the Supreme Court of the United States overturned a previous ruling that has now sent the issue of abortion back to each individual state. Many have promoted this as a “ban” on abortion, filling the airwaves with bloated propaganda and inciting greater anger among both sides of the issue. While this is a historic WIN for the sake of the unborn, it is the ideology of those who promote abortion that causes me to ask, “How did someone get to this point?” Is there a common denominator in this issue? I believe that there is, and that it has been hiding in plain sight all this time.

This blog will briefly examine the present-day disconnect over children and where it originated, as well as a word for women who have made the choice at some point in their life to abort their child.

Depending on what you are hearing, seeing, or believing, one might think that the United States of America is falling apart, having been ravaged by a series of explosions with no hope of recovery. This dramatic display revolves around the life or death of children, specifically those who are unborn and still growing in the womb according to God’s design. Many are touting a violation of reproductive freedom which serves as a mask to the “hook-up” culture that saturates the teen and twenty-somethings of our day. Others are screaming that women’s healthcare has been put in jeopardy, despite the stack of statistics that show the multiple health complications that stem from having an abortion. Others are looking for an open-door opportunity of distress or tragedy to further legislation that keeps the pendulum of politics swinging left and right without any progress of worth or value for our society. At the center of these ideologies is the bargaining chip of children.

What has taken place in a society that has chosen to domineer its smallest and weakest citizens for the sake of greed, gain, lust, pride, and self? Plainly put, it is a denial of the inerrancy of Scripture. By “inerrancy,” I mean that the original manuscripts, which contain the Old and New Testaments, is God-breathed by the Creator of all things Himself. From the first word of Genesis to the final word in Revelation, each word is precisely as He has sought it to be, perfectly placed by His divine will, with no part holding greater perfection than the other. The definition may be lengthy, but it reveals that, in its rejection of the inerrancy of Scripture, our society is wrestling with a matter of ultimate authority. People intrinsically hate that they are answerable to an ultimate authority. The psalmist expresses this:

1 Why are the nations in an uproar

And the peoples devising a vain thing?

2 The kings of the earth take their stand

And the rulers take counsel together

Against the Lord and against His Anointed, saying,

3 “Let us tear their fetters apart

And cast away their cords from us!”

-Psalm 2:1-3

We can see that very hatred pouring out of verse three. And why? Is the Almighty not gracious, merciful, good, and bursting with lovingkindness, being slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love (Psa 103:8)? Yes, He is. The problem does not lie in God but in mankind and their demonic desire for lust and destruction. This reflects the authority issue, which intrinsically gives worth and value to unborn children (Psa 29:9; Jer 1:5). We are rich because we have children, but this “richness” does not translate well in the world system that Satan has orchestrated (John 12:31; 14:30; 16:11; 2 Cor 4:4; 1 John 2:19). God has spoken about the true nature of things, both seen and unseen. He has exposed Satan’s plans in His holy Word, even painting a picture of his future downfall (Rev 20:10).

Now, a word about the grace of God. Some of you reading this may have participated in an abortion, either directly or indirectly. Only you know, but the fact is that you know. Understand that the grace of God, being His undeserved favor that He chooses to exercise toward sinners, is greater than the sin of abortion. His forgiveness is as perfect as the work of Christ on the cross for our sins. His love extends beyond the universe. He offers forgiveness full and free because Jesus has paid the price for all of our sins, and this includes abortion should you be one that has participated in it.

Maybe you have been convinced that God is mad at you because of your participation in an abortion. You feel that this was a sin that was beyond redemption and that you are “too bad” or “too far gone” for anyone to love you, especially the Creator of all things. Let me kindly say that you are deceived about the goodness and love of God.

He has not dealt with us according to our sins,

Nor rewarded us according to our iniquities.

For as high as the heavens are above the earth,

So great is His lovingkindness toward those who fear Him.

As far as the east is from the west,

So far has He removed our transgressions from us.

Just as a father has compassion on his children,

So the Lord has compassion on those who fear Him.

For He Himself knows our frame;

He is mindful that we are but dust.

-Psalm 103:10-14

His inerrant Word speaks to us clearly about His inerrant love for us. We can read it for ourselves! If God is true, everything that He says is true, and He will never lie, which means that He always means exactly what He says. “Those who fear Him” may be a scary or abnormal thought, but “fear” in this context has to do with coming to terms with your sin before Him.

Abortion may be the core issue that is keeping you from eternal life and forgiveness of sins. But please understand, we will never be good enough for God. This is why Jesus has died on the cross. He died in our place so that He could give us something that would make us 100% acceptable in God’s sight. Romans 3:22 states, “even the righteousness of God through faith in Jesus Christ for all those who believe.” God makes His own righteousness available to us because Christ has paid for the in problem by His blood. To be accepted by a holy God we must have a righteousness like His. This is available to us now, but it must be received by faith. This means that we have come to a confident conviction that Jesus’ death for us has made us acceptable in God’s sight. When we believe, we have Jesus’ righteousness as our own!

Have you believed in Jesus Christ? No sin is too great. His grace is always greater.
